This sterling silver pendant has the image of an ancient
symbol etched into it….the Thunderbird, with outspread wings
and tail. Set over it’s wing is a turquoise cabachon (2.5mm round).
The design for this pendant comes from an actual petroglyph
(ancient rock art). The pendant measures approximately 1 1/8” long
from the top of the bail and is 5/8” wide. It has a bold look and
weights 1/5 oz. This Thunderbird pendant is on a 20” long
sterling silver box style chain. The bail has a smooth, high polish
finish while the surface with the thunderbird has a matte brushed
finish to highlight the black outlined bird image . This is a
very accurate depiction of the actual thunderbird rock art panel.
The real petroglyph rock art thunderbird is 3 foot wide! It is one
of several petroglyphs incised into a massive boulder that faces
the sky. The location of the petroglyph is a Mississippian Indian
(AD 700-1700) village site here in Southern Illinois.
