Missouri chert stone material. Knapping is a
technique used by ancient man to create objects
in stone such as arrow points and other tools.
The chert stone used in this pair is a gray
color. The arrowheads dangle approximately
1” long from the ear wires and are wrapped in
sterling silver. The ear wires feature
golden/black tigeresye beads.

These arrowheads are hand knapped from a stone
called chert (colored flint). Knapping is an ancient
technique used by early man to fabricate tools from
stone. Pressure is applied in a controlled way to
create a sharp edge. Often antler was used to flake
the chert into shape. These particular projectile
points were fashioned by a modern chert knapper
using waste flakes that were generated hundreds
or thousands of years ago by ancient man as a
by-product in the knapping process.
